Shit… We used to come here all the time as kids… “Allen’s”, mexican pizzeria. Other than the decor, I’m not sure what makes it mexican, but it’s cheap and the strip mall it’s in is only a couple blocks from where we grew up. Where we grew up… That’s so long ago. To think, Abby’s gotten married and everything… I don’t even know what to think about that.

Go in and meet her.

“Hey girl, long time no see!” God… She looks so… Put together? Ironed dress, well done hair, fancy ring, etc.. She’s also here before me, which never used to happen. It’s good to see her not the highschool wreck I knew. “Hi Evelyn.” Feels a bit formal, but the smile’s genuine.

I should ask if she’s ordered yet...

“Yes, for both of us, but the service is terrible… As expected.” Weird, I always thought this place had good service. Places change I guess. We start small talking and catching up. Abby Wood.... Wow. I’d known about her boyfriend for a while in vague terms, but I honestly hadn’t even known his name until a couple weeks before the wedding. Carter Wood. Apparently, they had an old fashioned wedding that was just “gorgeous.”

Express my wishes that I couldn’t be there.

She sighs heavily. “It’s fine, I understand. It was short notice. How’s college?” I talk about college for a while. The buzz of day to day life, the friendships, breakups, drama, etc. (cutting out the boring work). I mention Lily, saying that Abby would really like her, and she frowns slightly. “Lilly Fürst? That sounds really familiar.”

“Yeah, I new her when we were kids.”

She looks confused for a moment. “Huh, I don’t remember her.” Before shrugging. “She’s the one you’re texting all the time? Are you two… Together or something?” She seems weird about it, kind of uncomfortable. She makes this little gesture with her hand while she says it, and I’m unsure what to think.

“I… I’m not sure.”

“No, I’m with Adam...”

“Right…” She pauses for a long time before changing the subject. Apparently her and Carter are already planning on children (and they want a lot of them). I have to sit through about ten minutes about how perfect their genetics are and how beautiful their children are going to be. Jesus Christ… WTF is wrong with married people? I’ve known her for most of my life, and she was rebellious and wild as a kid not… This? It’s like she’s straight out of the 50s, idealizing her husband and his perfect skull shape or some crap. Seriously? Who thinks about this shit?

Great, food’s here.

The food gets delivered, but apparently it’s not what Abby ordered. Something about the fucking sardines. Anyway, she starts bitching out the poor waiter. “Abby…” It doesn’t seem to help. She’s standing up now, and up in this poor guy’s face. WTF is wrong with her? It’s like something’s broken.

“Abby?”

She’s fucking yelling at this guy now about sardines and how this isn’t what she

She just said...

“What the fuck Abby!” I’m standing to now. I can feel rage welling up in my chest. She spins on me though, and even though I’m taller than her I can’t help but take a step back. “What bitch? I’m sorry, did that offend your delicate SJW tastes? Well fourteen eighty eight bitch. Go off and be a fucking race traitor somewhere else. Stay calm… This is in public… I can… Stay calm… what the fuck do I do? Stay calm… Stay calm...

Threaten to drag her out of here.

Abby left before anything happened else… The poor guy she assaulted and I talked for another forty five minutes. This is… I can’t imagine how he feels right now... Sure, I just lost my childhood best friend, but he... He… Eventually, I end up leaving too… I sit in my car for a good ten minutes.
